Agriculture is major part of the New Zealand economy and agricultural exports are the second largest income earner for the country. As such, it is important that continued innovation and improvement occur and science is key in providing knowledge for the productivity and profitability gains to the pastoral, agri-food and agri-technology sectors. AgResearch has taken a 'Farm to Fork' approach to this, and metabolomics is being applied right across this value-chain, from soil microbiome interactions, to forage performance and breeding programmes, to animal productivity and health, to added-value foods for human health. This presentation will highlight examples of metabolomics research across the value-chain carried out at AgResearch over the last decade and provide insight into the value of metabolomics to New Zealand Agriculture.
